We serve unaccompanied homeless and at risk youth up to their 25th birthday. Our ongoing mission is to end the cycle of youth homelessness. The foundation of our work is based around the national organization's pillars of support (Street Outreach, Outreach Centers, Mentoring and Housing) as defined here. However, each chapter is given the flexibility to address local issues nimbly and specific to the needs of the local communities they serve. We do this through two main programs, Roadmap to Success (RMTS) and Journey to Self-Sufficiency (JTS), as well as supplemental programs: WeDeliver, STEM (science, technology, engineering, math), Entrepreneurship, OC Colleges, and Project LEEVE. All of these programs are defined below.
Roadmap to Success (RMTS)
The RMTS program is an in-school or after-school program meant to support the at-risk McKinney-Vento youth in the Orange County school systems. We work with this population to provide basic needs, school tutoring support, and ongoing mentoring to build trust and loving, caring relationships with our youth. Read more about this program here.
Journey to Self-Sufficiency (JTS)
The JTS program is a 5 Stage process of helping homeless youth move from surviving to thriving. The program starts with providing basic needs support (food, housing, etc) and then providing employment readiness training, financial awareness training and ultimately graduation from the program and the ability to stay stably housed for the long term. For the entirety of the program our youth our supported by a team a staff and volunteers that build trusting, caring, loving relationships with our youth and love them until they can love themselves. Read more about this program here.
The WeDeliver program is a food and supply delivery system that all of our youth can access to help them get the nutrition and support their basic needs.
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) Program
The STEM program is geared to our school-aged youth as a way to raise awareness of STEM-related fields and show applications in these areas that are typically not well-defined in algebra, geometry, calculus, biology, chemistry, physics and other high school math and science courses. We bring in STEM professionals to execute modules on individual STEM disciplines and work directly with the youth on concepts and actual projects. Our kids not only learn about computer science, architecture, etc., but they are awakened to the possibility of where a STEM-related education could lead.
The entrepreneurship program is meant to awaken the possible entrepreneur in many of our youth. We put our youth through a semester-long course where they learn all of the steps to start a small business. From idea cultivation all the way through to a "Shark Tank" pitch at the end our youth learns the nuts and bolts and process to generate a business from an idea. Some of our youth have actually brought products to market upon completion of the program.
