Your support and involvement in our mission has helped make 2017 a standout year for StandUp For Kids.
Our central responsibility is to our nation’s young people faced with homelessness, whether temporary or longer term. No matter the circumstances that got them there. No matter the work that needs to be done to help them transition them into safe, stable chapters of their lives. We are deeply humbled by this responsibility, and held fiercely to it through the political tumult of 2017. When some of our youth felt unwelcome, we stood taller to welcome them.

Michelle "Beautiful" was in a bad place. Homeless on and off for more than four years, Michelle knew she needed help both emotionally and physically. Then she met the volunteers at StandUp For Kids - Houston."They helped me with the proper nutrition as well as school and employment opportunities," says Michelle. "They gave me the support I needed to build and maintain a healthy lifestyle."
Now more than five years later, Michelle has really turned her life around. She's earned her high school diploma and cosmetology license as well as other job permits and skills. February is a big month for StandUp For Kids - Houston. We are proud to be opening our drop-in center Friday nights. Kids can come get dinner, clothing, food and hygiene supplies as well as help with finding jobs and other services. Our volunteers and our kids are very excited about this big step!
Thank you to Grace Lutheran Church and St. Stephens Episcopal Church for all of your help. Starbucks gets a huge thank you from us and the kids! You are helping our kids out so much by allowing us to have your left over pastries. We so appreciate it and its awesome to be able to give our kids Starbucks to eat for snacks and breakfast!
