Some people make a difference through their careers. Others make a difference through volunteering. A rare few do both, dedicating their lives to ensuring young people have the support, encouragement, and opportunities they deserve. That is exactly what makes Kedric Sledge, StandUp for Kids board member so special.
With more than 18 years of experience serving youth in a school social work setting and over a decade working with at-risk youth in diverse community settings, he has built a reputation as someone who consistently shows up for young people, no matter what challenges they face.
His commitment to youth extends far beyond his job description. Whether he is supporting students in school, making home visits in the community, or volunteering his time with StandUp for Kids, his focus remains the same: helping young people succeed.
“I stand up for kids because too many young people face challenges they didn’t choose. Every child deserves safety, consistency and someone in their corner.” Kedric Sledge
One of the first things people notice about Kedric is his positivity. He is known for his welcoming smile, encouraging attitude, and ability to see potential in every young person he meets. Colleagues, families, and youth alike know they can count on him to listen, support, and advocate when it matters most.
Kedric provides guidance and support not only to young people but also to the professionals who serve them. His expertise and leadership have made him a trusted resource in the field. He is frequently called upon to provide training, workshops, and professional development opportunities for fellow social workers, administrators, and school staff. His willingness to share knowledge and mentor others has helped strengthen services for countless young people beyond those he serves directly.

“I am passionate about being a board member with Stand Up for Kids because throughout the world homeless youth are often an overlooked population. Organizations such as Stand Up provide designated resources and give youth a circle of support and opportunity for success. “ Kedric Sledge
Despite the demands of his career, he continues to make time to volunteer with StandUp for Kids. As a board member, he provides leadership and insight that help guide our organization. Beyond board service, he volunteers to oversee interns and works directly with our youth, ensuring they receive the same compassion and support that have become hallmarks of his career.
What makes his commitment even more remarkable is that he is also a new father. Like many new parents, he is navigating sleepless nights and the challenges that come with caring for an infant. Yet day after day, he continues to show up at work, at home, and in the community, with the same dedication and enthusiasm that has defined his career. There is never any question about where his priorities lie.
“Having a toddler has made me appreciate being a board member even more because it has given me a greater sense of responsibility for the future we are helping to shape for the next generation” Kedric Sledge

What makes his impact even more remarkable is that he would likely never seek recognition for it. His humility is as inspiring as his dedication. Despite the countless lives he has touched, the teams he has led, and the expertise he shares with others, he remains focused on serving youth rather than receiving credit. We are incredibly grateful to have him as part of the StandUp for Kids family. His service reminds us that lasting change happens when people choose to invest their time, talents, and hearts in others. Every day, he does exactly that.
