StandUp For Kids – Hampton Roads is the second-oldest StandUp For Kids chapter, established in 1991 at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. For more than three decades, our volunteers have been dedicated to serving homeless and at-risk youth up to age 24, along with their dependents, throughout the Hampton Roads community.
We provide support through the following programs:
Drop-In Center
Our Drop-In Center offers a safe, welcoming space where youth can access hot meals, games and crafts, supportive counseling, and assistance with immediate needs. Services are provided three times per week.
Street Outreach Program
Our Street Outreach Program allows us to meet youth where they are. Outreach is conducted in conjunction with Drop-In Center hours, ensuring continued connection, support, and access to resources.
In addition to outreach services, we also provide:
- Emergency Shelter for youth in immediate crisis on a case by case basis.
- Rapid Rehousing support to help youth transition into stable housing.
- GED Access and Educational Support to empower youth to reach long-term independence and stability

Public Commitment Statement
At StandUp for Kids – Hampton Roads, we are dedicated to increasing access, advancing equity, and creating opportunities for the young people and families we serve. Our mission is rooted in the belief that every child and young adult deserves safety, stability, and the chance to thrive—regardless of their background, circumstances, or identity.
We are committed to breaking down barriers that prevent access to essential resources, including shelter, education, healthcare, and supportive services. By working hand-in-hand with community partners, we strive to make these opportunities available to all, especially to those who have been historically underserved and marginalized.
Equity is at the center of our approach. We recognize that systemic inequalities create disproportionate challenges, particularly for youth experiencing homelessness, youth of color, LGBTQ+ youth, and young people impacted by poverty. Our programs are intentionally designed to meet individuals where they are, honor their lived experiences, and provide the tools and support needed to overcome obstacles and build brighter futures.
Creating opportunities means more than providing immediate relief—it means empowering young people to develop skills, find mentors, pursue education and employment, and gain the confidence to move from crisis to stability. By fostering a compassionate and inclusive environment, we help open doors that lead to long-term success and community belonging.
Through this commitment, StandUp for Kids – Hampton Roads affirms that increasing access, advancing equity, and creating opportunities are not just aspirations, but guiding principles that shape everything we do.
