The Legacy of Showing Up: A Conversation with Charles S. Brown

Apr 14, 2026

At StandUp For Kids, we believe the most powerful form of leadership is simply showing up. For National Board Member, Charles Brown, this has meant everything from driving donation trucks to navigating the complexities of organizational mission and strategy.

A Family Tradition of Service

While Charles is known for his leadership on our National Board, his most lasting impact might be seen in his own home. His daughters, Claire and Chloe, grew up watching their father dedicate his time to Street Outreach and advocacy.

That example stayed with them. Inspired by her father’s commitment to volunteering, Chloe chose to pursue a career in the non-profit sector after college and now serves with Catholic Charities of South Jersey. It is a powerful reminder that when our leaders serve, they aren’t just changing the lives of the youth on the street – they are setting a standard for the next generation.

Leading with Practical Experience

Charles’s value to the board comes from the fact that he has seen every side of our operations. He has been the one behind the wheel of a donation truck and the one in the room for the toughest leadership conversations.

“In the corporate world, we manage risk. In outreach, we manage hope,” Charles says. Having someone who understands both the practicalities of the mission and the necessity of organizational growth is what keeps StandUp For Kids on track.

A Welcome Return

We are honored to welcome Charles back for his second term on our National Board of Directors. Throughout his time with us, he has remained a constant source of encouragement and a steady hand during our evolution.

Whether he is acting as an ambassador for our chapters or ensuring we stay focused on our core mission, or doing street outreach, Charles leads with a level of personal investment that is rare. He doesn’t just offer advice from a distance; he leads with his heart and his actions. — Kelly
