Oceanside Orientation
STANDUP FOR
KIDS - Oceanside is a great place to volunteer your time. You'll be helping kids who need you. We can always use more counselors and leaders to fulfill our goals. You'll find a diverse group of caring people who live in various cities of North County and have many reasons for wanting to help homeless, street and at-risk kids. We work and play together, all to support the kids. Want to see if this is a good fit for your special volunteer time? Then come to an orientation. Choose the day and time that works best for you.
We have an orientation every month. To find out when our next orientation
is, call 760-439-2112 or e-mail us at oceanside@standupforkids.org.
Group Orientations
If you have an organization or group of friends in the North County area who would like to hear more about our Oceanside Outreach program, get in touch with us and we'll arrange a special orientation or presentation at your location.
Scheduled Community Events
STANDUP FOR
KIDS - Oceanside utilizes the existing service community to provide programs and services to our kids. We help them by directing the kids to them. They in turn help the kids. We maintain a resource list which includes all organizations that serve homeless, street and at-risk kids 21 and under in Oceanside, and other North County cities. Contact us if you want to make sure your organization is on our list.
In this spirit of synergy, we participate in local service-oriented events. When such events are scheduled, they will be found on our calendar.
Volunteer Recognition
Oceanside's program began in August 2001 when two local residents took to our streets to find and work with the kids. They were trained and assisted by Mike Dorn, the Regional trainer provided by National Headquarters in San Diego. Patty Haulley, still an active volunteer in the program, was the very first volunteer. A little later, Lisa Frost was recruited to be the Oceanside Executive Director. A few other volunteers followed, and the core group went through training in October, 2001. This original group doubled in the first 6 months and today there are approximately 20 volunteers in Oceanside.
Volunteering for STANDUP FOR
KIDS in any outreach program requires a minimum 6-month commitment of time. Most volunteers spend at least 3 hours a week in program activities. It is the custom of all outreach groups to recognize outstanding volunteers each year.
