Welcome to STANDUP
FOR KIDS Tucson.
We are all volunteers and could use your help.
IN
THE NEWS
Greetings
Tucson,
The Tucson leadership and the National Office
of STANDUP
FOR KIDS
are sending Marc Fortney from Denver, Colorado to
strengthen StandUp For Kids-Tucson! He will be visiting
from September 17th-19th of 2004.
Marc will be coming to Tucson with his tool kit
filled with almost 5 years of experience with STANDUP
FOR KIDS
(8 cities in five states) from an Outreach Volunteer,
Center Supervisor, National Regional Trainer, to
a National Consultant. He has 1 year of personal
experience as a “streetwalker.” He has
served as a Homeless Education Liaison Assistant
for the public schools. He is also currently engulfed
in studying the field of Social Work.
The target goals to strengthen Tucson’s STANDUP
FOR KIDS
are the following:
1) To train volunteers to serve as Outreach Counselors,
Board of Directors, and administrative personnel.
• Our dynamic 12
hour raw and reality driven training educates, equips,
and creates advocacy within for all interested volunteers.
• We will be offering
Orientation on Friday September 17th at 7PM to 9PM.
Please RSVP for location.
• In addition, we
will be offering the other sessions to complete
the training on Saturday September 18th & 19th
from 9AM to 3PM at the Donna Swaim Honors Lounge
in the University of Arizona Student Union (3rd
floor).
You will need to attend all three days
to complete your training.
To receive your National Volunteer Training Manual,

Policy and Procedures Manual, please click: Here
We do ask you read these materials before training.
We also ask you begin to work on your 3 character
references and your national background check.
Please contact us for Volunteer Training as soon
as you can!
2) To join the leadership meeting to asses the
programs direction, to establish new goals and to
meet with current and potential leaders of Tucson’s
STANDUP
FOR KIDS.
• The
leadership meeting will be on Saturday September
18th at 6:30PM at Cocoyaya Mexican Restaurant located
at 3156 E. Fort Lowell Rd. Please join us if you
are interested in serving in a leadership or administrative
position.
Until we meet to serve our kids of Tucson, consider
the following:
They are like Shadows in our cities,
small outlines of skin and bones that attach themselves
to abandoned buildings, park benches, narrow alleyways.
And when falls, these shadows disappear in to places
many of us will never, ever see in this lifetime.
Very few people know the faces of these shadows,
or their names. They are America’s untouchables
and unreachables-America’s street children
(Covenant House, 1996).
Lastly, in regards to training, please contact
Tucson today at (520) 429-5974 or Tucson@standupforkids.org
to reserve a seat at (y)our next STANDUP

Volunteer Training!

Read
about the struggles that one youth faced trying
to survive the streets of Tucson while battling
a heroin addiction and a mental illness. "'I don't steal,' Bozymowski
says emphatically as she sits outside a West Side
grocery store panhandling one evening last April.
'The only time I would steal is if I'm hungry. I'm
a junkie but I have morals. I hate liars and thieves.'

The Search is on.
