Washington D.C. Program Wins “Program of the Year” Award at STANDUP FOR KIDS National Conference!
At the awards banquet at STANDUP FOR KIDS’ national conference on October 21 in Houston, Texas, the Washington D.C. program was given the award for “ Program of the Year.” This is a proud moment and a significant accomplishment for our chapter, which is now 18 months old.
This award is conferred each year on the program that best represents the way a STANDUP FOR KIDS program should be run.
Jade Verity (Co-Executive Director) and Jeffery Verity (Director of Community Resource Development) were present in Houston to receive the award and made sure to tell everyone there that this award reflects the devotion, talent, and incredibly hard work of the entire team in Washington D.C.
Congratulations to all of the members of the Washington D.C. program who have made this past year so successful! You should feel proud of your accomplishments!

What
Is "Basic Training"?
All
new volunteers are required to attend 6 hours of “Basic
Training.” This training series focuses on the
following topics:
- Volunteer Bonding
- Who Are We? Who Are They?
- Discussion of 4 articles regarding child development
issues

Each session lasts approximately 2 hours, and you
must attend all sessions in order to be qualified
to volunteer for StandUp For Kids. Normally, in Washington
D.C. our training sessions are offered either on two
consecutive Saturdays (4 hours on day, and 2 hours
the next), or on three consecutive weekday evenings.
Please check our calendar
for the start dates of our next Basic Training.
Our training is designed to be interesting, interactive,
and informative. You will gain a deeper understanding
of the history and mission of StandUp For Kids (both
on a national and local level), and a more complete
awareness of the problem of homeless youth and the
realities of street life. Volunteers participate in
a variety of exercises that foster bonds between our
volunteers, and also help them gain practical insight
into what
it might be like to do street outreach.
To reserve a space in our next Basic Training series,
please rsvp to Wendy Erlanger at WashDC@standupforkids.org.
