March 20th, 2008 Stephen Watson traveled with a group of college students from Montgomery AL to help out with service projects in Houston.
They decided to do something a little different this Spring Break: to help non profits in Houston. We were one of the lucky ones to welcome their ministries. Thanks for all the hard work and sweat you put into the Houston Chapter!
Your support and donations are very much appreciated. We welcome you back to Houston anytime. Thank you!!!
April 17th, 2008. Alvin, TX. Susan Licciardi, Secondary Spanish Teacher and her students at ASSETS Learning Center invited Melissa Maschke and Brooke Miller to talk about STANDUP FOR KIDS - HOUSTON.
The school has 250 students from grades 7-12. Ms. Licciardi wants her home room to get involved and learn about youth homelessness.
They are looking into possible projects for their school. We are looking forward to a continued collaboration!
Urgent Appeal: We need volunteers for our 48hrs campaign in the last weekend in April, volunteers for our DON'T RUN AWAY program, and help with our cell phone drives.
If you can help, contact us houston@standupforkids.org.
Brooke Miller (Co-Executive Director) attended the coordinating council meeting on November 7, 2007, which are groups that work with homeless all over Houston and meet the
first Wednesday of every month at the MHMRA Conference Center. StandUp For Kids received 65 blankets distributed by the Houston Coalition for the Homeless and got our name
out there to let the groups know we are re-building the Houston Chapter and are eager to work together to help the homeless youth in Houston.

The Girl Scouts of Twin Oaks Service Unit recently held their Service Unit camping weekend "Campout in Wonderland" at Camp Agnes Arnold. Over 200 girls and almost 100 adults participated. As part of the weekend, a service project was selected. The group decided that StandUp For Kids would be the very best recipient of our service. A wish list went to troops and they responded in a BIG WAY! More than 10 troops brought items to camp ranging from canned goods & snack food to toothpaste to hair care items to feminine products. Even some sleeping bags with flashlights!
