What’s with the number: 600?
600 represents many things, including:
The number of minutes in 10 hours
The number of seconds in 10 minutes
10.5 full teams of Minnesota Vikings
24 full teams of Minnesota Twins
and
The number of homeless youth living on the streets of the Twin Cities everyday! That's right..600!
STANDUP FOR KIDS and many other youth services organizations here in the Twin Cities believe that we must do everything we can to educate our community about this tragic issue AND do something about it! That’s where you come in!
We are continually looking for volunteers to help us with our prevention and intervention efforts. Our prevention efforts focus on increasing public awareness of the issue of homeless youth and delivering our “Don’t Run Away” educational program to alternative and mainstream schools.
Our intervention efforts include reaching out to existing homeless youth through our street outreach efforts. This includes helping homeless youth on the streets by providing them with basic necessities such as food, clothing and hygiene products. Additionally, we direct the homeless youth to some terrific youth services organizations here in the Twin Cities that are prepared to provide them with professional assistance such as counseling or job training.
Lastly, if you would like to take an active leadership role with our program, we are always looking for good leaders to help us out. Let us know.
The first step to getting involved is by clicking on the “Get Involved” link in the upper right side of this page. This will take you to a page where you can fill out a “Volunteer Application” on which you can indicate how you would like to help.
