STANDUP FOR KIDS - Worcester

Celebrate with StandUp for Kids:
Worcester Chapter Becomes Official

We are proud to announce that StandUp for Kids Worcester will be officially inducted as a chapter of StandUp for Kids on Saturday, August 23rd.

StandUp for Kids is committed to helping homeless and at-risk kids. The Worcester chapter has come a long way in one year. We’ve recruited a dedicated team of volunteers. We spent months researching and compiling a resource list for homeless and at-risk kids, from food pantries to local help lines. In April 2008, we put our mission into action by outreaching to homeless and at-risk kids and continue to do this every Tuesday night on the Downtown Common.

Our achievements have been possible because of the support of so many organizations and individuals within the Worcester community. You’ve spread the word. You’ve donated clothes, food, and money. And now we want to thank you for helping us along the way.

Let’s Celebrate!

Please join us to celebrate our current achievement and our future service to homeless and at-risk kids:

Meet Rick Koca!

We are honored to have Rick Koca, Found of StandUp for Kids, present on August 23rd to celebrate this huge milestone for the organization. Meet the man who started it all.

Take Part in the Festivities

The night will start off with an informational presentation about the organization, followed by Dessert and Conversation. This is your opportunity to meet and talk with Rick and the volunteers of the Worcester chapter. Not only do you get to find out about us, but we get to hear the voices of Worcester. May 4, 2008. On Sunday, May 4th, the Worcester group celebrated the Turn Purple campaign. All decked out in purple shirts and face paint, the volunteers held posters and handed out fliers at two areas in the city: Park Avenue/Highland Street and Foster Street (outside the DCU Center). We would like to thank the Worcester community for their support and donations. Stay tuned for more SUFK events.

April 14, 2008. StandUp for Kids began Outreach in the Worcester Commons on April 14th. The group will provide on-the-street outreach every Tuesday evening. What is Outreach? Volunteers go to the streets in groups of four to six people "to find, stabilize and assist homeless and street kids" (http://www.standupforkids.org/FAQs.html).

Volunteers Complete Resource Survey

StandUp for Kids - Worcester completed a survey of all community resources in February 2008. This survey allowed us to create a brochure of resources (e.g. shelters, GED programs) to be distributed during Outreach to homeless, street and at risk youth. The survey will also allow us to:

  1. Identify the real issues facing homeless and street kids, so we know what needs to be accomplished as we start our STANDUP FOR KIDS program.
  2. To articulate these issues to supporters, sponsors, and prospective volunteers

You Can Help!

The StandUp for Kids program needs assistance in the following areas:

  • Volunteers (e.g., Leadership, Outreach)
  • Donations (wish list items or monetary)
  • Sponsorship
  • Spread the Word. Your voice can make a difference.

Information sessions for volunteers will be posted on this site. You can also email us at Worcester@StandUpForKids.org.
