STANDUP FOR KIDS is launching a program in the Florida Keys, with its base of operations situated in the Middle Keys in Marathon. We are currently in the process of forming our base leadership team and outreach plan and we're working diligently on completion of a Keys-wide survey that will identify supporting programs, resources and other assistance available to homeless and street kids.

We are very much aware of the unique nature of the homeless youth situation here in the Keys, and we have already begun identifying safety mechanisms and procedures that will be in place way before the start of the 2009 hurricane season. We are also working with area specialists to determine best practices as to dealing with excessive sun, heat stroke, and prolonged respiratory exposure to coral dust.

In true Keys' form, people from Key Largo to Key West are stepping up and asking, "what can we do to help?" I'm glad you asked, because WE NEED YOU! We're looking for volunteers who are ready to put their words into action -- to give back, and in so doing, to receive more than can be believed. It's the foundation of our country -- it's the heartbeat of the Keys: to be there when someone needs us.

We are an all-volunteer program. For us to be there for the kids, we need you. We're looking for people who care. Will you join us?
