Message From the Executive Directors
StandUp For Kids of Orlando is running at full speed
with many concurrent activities! With a strong
leadership team and a great group of volunteers,
we are now officially walking the streets of Orlando
in search of homeless and street kids. In
addition, we are holding our first fundraising
event in April; a car wash at a local Wal-mart. This
newsletter issue will discuss the above topics,
and more, such as the “Volunteers of the
Quarter”, and ways you can get involved through
volunteering, giving, or just by helping turn Orlando Purple. Please
take a moment to think about what it is like to
be a young child, starving on the street, begging
for food, contemplating suicide, and having to
sell your body in order to eat. This is not
what we want for our kids, and these are not the
choices that they should have to make. This
is a great cause, but we cannot do it alone. Please
help us help kids!!!
In kind regards,
Jeremy and Apurva
Executive Directors of Orlando
Orlando
officially begins Outreach Program
The Orlando
chapter has officially started walking the streets
in search of street kids!! On March 22, Orlando’s
Outreach Director, Peter Wojcik, lead a team of dedicated
Orlando volunteers to the streets of Downtown Orlando
on a Wednesday night for the first time. We
met a young girl, called Dream, who came to Orlando
with her boyfriend. Her relationship, for which
she had left her family and home town Omaha, Nebraska,
was broken and she was out on streets alone and pregnant. Dream
needs a ride back home, but SUFK needs your help! Anyone
who would like to purchase the bus ticket for this
young lady so that she can return home to Omaha Nebraska,
please contact us at Orlando@StandUpForKids.org. Please
help in changing someone’s life for better
and uniting hearts that have been broken!
Wal-Mart
Carwash
The Orlando
chapter will be conducting its first fundraising
event, CAR WASH, on Saturday, April 8th from 9:00am – 3:00pm
at the Walmart Neighborhood Market on South Alafaya
Trail near Waterford Lakes. The Walmart
Neighbourhood Market is generously matching our car
wash cash donations upto $500. Please participate
in this event and encourage friends and family to
support. The money collected will be used to
support our Outreach and Don’t Run Away programs,
and our Kids needs to help make a difference in their
lives. They are on a road that has several
turns; with our help they can make the right turn,
and get back to a more respected and enjoyable life.
Orlando Turns
Purple
Let's turn Purple in
April. The
Turn Purple Campaign
is the nation’s
first campaign against child abuse and the resulting
problem of youth homelessness. In America,
90% of children who run away have encountered mental,
physical, emotional, and/ or sexual abuse. No child
wants to live on the streets. No child wants to have
to beg, steal, sell drugs, and/ or themselves just
to survive. Please provide your support! Click here to sign our petition.
