What is Denver Up To?
Our thirty volunteers are reaching out to a little under 100 kids a week! Read below to find out what we’re doing and how you can be part of this incredible community!
OUR KIDS
In Memory of Rinu
On January 28, 2010, Rinu—a great poet, a caring soul, a brilliant young woman who loved animals—lost her life. She was only 20. We never imagined we’d have to face the day when we’d lose one of our kids. We were able to drive members of her street family to attend her memorial. The kids read moving and funny poems that really celebrated Rinu.
Rinu was one of the first kids we met when we started outreach. We helped her through the ups and downs, were able to eat some meals with her, and teach here some valuable tools for taking care of herself. Her passing has been difficult on our volunteers, but we hope she is at peace now. She certainly left behind many people who love and miss her.
Here’s a lovely article the Denver Post created about her:

December Volunteer of the Month
John McMurry was elected the
December Volunteer of the Month
Here’s what John’s peers say about him:
John has been an incredible asset to the Denver team. John came on board as an outreach counselor and director of program support. Under his care, he has brought in enough donations to bring our kids sandwiches three nights a week along with other food and toiletries. He as formed incredible relationships with other organizations helping homeless youth, helping to share the resources across the Denver community. He has mentored the kids to no end, teaching them things like popping their arms with rubber bands in place of cutting. He really gets to know the kids; he remembers what their wishes and desires are and searches out donors to bring them those things. Not only that, all of us volunteers love working with John. He has great energy, his one of the wisest people on the planet, he is motivating, and is just downright fun and knowledgeable.
Congratulations, John!
