The Kiwanis Club of Bonita

The Kiwanis Club of Bonita is a community service club of about thirty members. We are a group of volunteers dedicated to changing the world, one child and one community at a time. We are involved year-round in a variety of service projects. We participate in Chula Vista’s “Christmas in October” fixing up homes of low income or elderly families. At Thanksgiving and Christmas we purchase and deliver enough food for full family dinners (and more) to dozens of needy families. We help the Salvation Army ringing bells at the familiar donation pots at Christmas. We collect quarters – over $500 – each year to support Rady Children’s Hospital. Also in support of Children’s, you’ll find Bonita Kiwanians out early in the morning selling Kids Day Newspapers. The club actively supports our sponsored youth organizations, a Key Clubs at Bonita High School and K-Kids Clubs at Allen and Marshall Elementary School. We are involved year-round in community activities such as Bonitafest and constructing the “Welcome to Bonita” sign on Bonita Road.

For several years we have been active supporters of StandUp For Kids. SUFK’s Rick Koca is an honorary member of our club. We have donated money, clothing, and supplies to the San Diego center. More importantly, we have spread the word and enthusiasm for SUFK throughout the community: other Kiwanis Clubs, other service clubs, church groups, and the like. There is a passion throughout the club to reach out to homeless kids and help however we can.

The Kiwanis Club of Bonita meets every Thursday at 7:00am for breakfast at the Bonita Golf Club at 5540 Sweetwater Road. in Bonita. Visitors and prospective members are always welcome.

Cathy's Kids

As some of you know, my twin sister Cathy was the Border Patrol Agent who was killed in the line of duty on October 25th. Many people have asked what they can do to help. There is one very important way that you can help me and also help some homeless teenagers.

Cathy was an outreach counselor at a San Diego based non-profit organization called STANDUP FOR KIDS. There is a huge hidden problem in this country - homeless teenagers. I have started a "Cathy's Kids" at STANDUP FOR KIDS

SOMA - San Diego
“SOMA is the Best!!” explained one of our kids after we Somatook them to see a recent Guttermouth show at SOMA. As I watched this particular kid walk away in a ripped up white T-shirt, drenched in sweat, breathing heavily, experiencing an unknown high degree of adrenaline and smiling from ear to ear
