Volunteer fundraiser Sally Keefer partnered with STANDUP FOR KIDS to put together an exciting and informative attraction for the fair. In addition to information about homelessness and STANDUP FOR KIDS, the booth offered water bottles, purple wristbands and STANDUP FOR KIDS eco-friendly shopping bags. Patrons were also invited to enter a raffle to win a variety of fun prizes, including surfing lessons, a free haircut and dinner for two, courtesy of local businesses.

In spite of choosing a carefree, sunny day to highlight a serious issue, the booth was a huge success. Throughout the day, fair patrons could be seen lingering in front of the STANDUP FOR KIDS booth, shocked as they read the story of a 12-year-old homeless girl who turned to drugs and prostitution to survive. People were anxious to know more about the homelessness crisis in Orange County, and what they could do to help.

By the end of the day, the booth had raised more than $1,900 for O.C.’s homeless youth, and the residents of San Clemente were able to go home with tans, goodies and more informed minds. A big STANDUP Applause for Sally and her vision!
