| An incredible success, considering all but one of the volunteers who participated in this year’s event is new to the program. We had a lot of activities planned, and kept the kids so busy that by Saturday night they needed a break. We would like to extend a special thanks Tumbleweed drop in Center, for their hospitality and willingness to share their facility, and allow us to help them support their clients with our event.

Throughout the weekend we served approximately 20 kids. Most of these kids were with us on Saturday for Bingo, lunch, a movie dinner and ice skating, and returned to participate in a soccer game and a BBQ lunch on Sunday. Some of the kids shared their talents with us by playing instruments in a Jam session and painting a mural with our volunteers.
We had 18 StandUp For Kids volunteers and approximately 10 community volunteers who gave, in total, more than 200 hours of their time to engaging the kids with activities and providing them with meals and snacks for 48 hours. Just the sheer volume of volunteers on hand during each shift allowed us to maximize face time with the kids and really develop relationships with them. This bodes well for our continued relationship with them through our outreach program.
Several local businesses contributed by donating tickets and passes or supplying us with meals for the kids. A special thanks to all of the businesses listed on the left. Without the support of their generous donations, 48 hours would not have been possible.
I think it was summed up best by one of the teens who asked, “can we do this again next week”? We scheduled to hold monthly organized events this year, so please consider donations that support these activities as well.
