IN THE NEWS
UPCOMING INFORMATION SESSION:
STANDUP FOR KIDS New York - will be holding training sessions this month for new volunteers. All new volunteers who wish to attend these should have already attended one of our Information Sessions. After this, they will have to attend a Basic Training session followed by a Street Training session. These are compulsory both for those who want to become outreach counselors and those who want to join our committee.
There is a choice of 2 dates for Basic Training: Sunday 11th March, or Sunday 18th March. Both will commence at 2pm sharp and end at 6pm.
For Street Training there is only one date: Sunday 25th March starting at 1pm sharp and ending at 5pm. The address will be sent to all those who are registered.
STANDUP FOR KIDS New York is led by a dynamic and motivated committee of 12 Directors and Assistant Directors (please refer to our list of local contacts for their respective positions). Each member brings with her/him a wealth of experience that will ensure that STANDUP FOR KIDS will grow even more rapidly in New York. Many have in-depth experience in non-profit work that assists our team of counselors to help homeless youth in our city. STANDUP FOR KIDS New York is poised for a great year ahead under such fantastic leadership and management!
Update:
STANDUP FOR KIDS Holiday Benefit Party, December 18th 2006, New York - this sell-out event was a huge success!
STANDUP FOR KIDS, New York, hosted an exciting and glamorous party "T'was the Night" in the Time Warner Center overlooking Central Park. This was attended by industry and business leaders, celebrities and select media representatives from TV and the press. Everyone enjoyed superb food, fine wines, champagne, live jazz, and many bid for superb items in the silent auction.
As a result, a significant amount of funds was raised to help the homeless children of New York. Thank you to everyone who made this event such a tremendous success!

All proceeds will go to homeless kids.
STANDUP FOR KIDS NYC and the Neutral Zone peer outreach have been
teaming up to hit the streets for outreach! The Neutral Zone is a
drop-in center for homeless and runaway GLBT youth in New York City
that has recently begun its own peer street outreach program. StandUp
counselors have really benefited from the street smarts and humor that
the Zone kids have brought with them. The combination of skills that
StandUp volunteers and peer outreach workers bring to the table have
allowed us to expand our outreach efforts and to connect to more
youth. In a single evening, we were able to provide 25 street youth
with food, condoms, and information about social services in New York
City.
