Welcome to the Washington DC Chapter of StandUp For Kids! Our program has been regularly conducting street outreach since May 2011 to connect homeless and at-risk youth in DC with much-needed services available around the District.
DC has a lot going on! Check out our calendar at the bottom of the page to see what we have planned in the coming months and how you can get involved! If you're new to StandUp DC, please check out our new volunteer orientation, which is now online. You can access it here: http://standupwashdc.wikispaces.com/orientation Once you have clicked through the orientation, you will have the chance to sign up for a number of volunteer opportunities with StandUp DC. The orientation takes about 45 minutes.
Street and Library Outreach - Street Outreach counselors go to the streets and libraries to reach homeless kids. The greatest needs for homeless kids are continuous caring and real support. StandUp For Kids befriends homeless kids and lets them know that caring adults are concerned about their well-being, this critical bonding is the first step toward helping these kids get off the streets and live a better life.
DC's outreach counselors hit the streets to connect with District youth every Saturday afternoon and Tuesday evening.
This month's topic: What's culture (mine and yours) got to do with it?, 7-8:30pm, Martin Luther King Library, 901 G St. NW
We conduct street outreach every Saturday and Tuesday at the MLK library.
Volunteers must attend volunteer orientation and outreach training to attend outreach.
