Teens for Jeans 2014 has officially launched! We anticipate it's going to be a successful year for all of us, and are so glad you and StandUp For Kids San Antonio are on board with one of our biggest campaigns of the year!
Young people across the US and Canada can now go to the Teens for Jeans site and sign up to run jeans drives in their schools and communities. Once they collect as many jeans as they can, they'll drop them off at a local Aeropostale store from January 13th to February 16th. Last year we collected 902,500 pairs, and this year, we are shooting to send a million jeans to organizations like yours.
To reach our goal of a million jeans, we would love your help to spread the word about this campaign. If you'll be seeing loved ones this Thanksgiving, it would be great to talk to them about running a drive! For more information, they can head to teensforjeans.com or text JEANS to 38383. Additionally, we encourage you to spread the word to friends who work as teachers, counselors, advisers, principals, or youth leaders, and parents, who could help spark an interest. Let's get all of them on board, and get even more people talkin' and donatin' JEANS!
When you are talking to those you know about the campaign, definitely let them know that Do Something is here to help with every step along the way. We provide tips and resources about how to run the best jeans drive - from where to set up the box to downloadable posters that can be printed and hung in schools and around town. Additionally, we also send a banner (for free!) to anyone that requests one to promote their drive! And - before I forget - there are amazing prizes available for those who participate, including the chance to win a $4,000 scholarship and a $10,000 grand prize to the school that collects the most jeans.
Alamo Empire is one of the most beautiful examples of outstanding community leadership in that their sole purpose is to raise funds for organizations that serve the LGBT community. We were very fortunate that they selected us as one of their primary beneficiaries since we serve all youth, gay and straight alike. This was a very gracious and bold step by this amazing group of community leaders, which made the announcement that they selected us AGAIN as a primary beneficiary for Reign XXI, extraordinary!!!
We want to express our deepest gratitude to Reign XX's Emperor Geoff Torres and Empress Esmeralda Kane James for welcoming us into the Alamo Empire family. We take, very seriously, the confidence you have placed in us to serve homeless and at-risk youth in their courageous journey to build strong and independent lives for themselves. We will work hard to continue to honor this confidence you have placed in us. The opportunities for the young people we serve just expanded in ways we had not dreamed of ...because of Alamo Empire Reign XX and XXI and your outstanding community leadership. On behalf of the San Antonio Chapter and our National Organization... thank you for giving these young people hope for a brighter future.
We want to thank all of our 2011 Sponsors and Supporters for making this a great year for StandUp For Kids - San Antonio and making a difference in the lives of so many young people in our community.
"Thank you StandUp For Kids Volunteers - you guys are the most fiercely dedicated, hard-working team anyone could ever hope for, and thank you to our youth - you're courage and tenacity inspires us all."
Janet Grigsby, Executive Director 2008-2012
