Welcome to StandUp For Kids - Philadelphia
City of brotherly love!
We are all volunteers and could use your help.

The mission of StandUp For Kids is ending the cycle of youth homelessness. We do this, every day, in cities across America. We carry out our mission through our volunteers who go to the streets in order to find, stabilize and otherwise help homeless and street kids improve their lives.

Girl Scout Troop #80469 from Fords, NJ just collected over 100 hygiene items for StandUp For Kids as part of their Girl Scouts 100th Anniversary service project. To celebrate 100 years of girl scouting all the troops in the Fords, NJ area chose an organization and collected 100 items to represent the 100 years. Troop #80469 wanted to help children as part of their service project.
Lisa Giovatto and her Daisy troop of kindergarten and 1st grade girls including
Alyssa, Emily, Laura Gene, Sydney, Morgan, Kaylin, Samantha, Ilianna, Rachel, Summer,
Isabella, Rebecca, Melanie and Jillian planned and executed the drive to collect
hygiene supplies for homeless youths. The troop leaders wanted to show the girls
how fortunate they are and how they could make a difference for children their age.
For their excellent community service work the girls are earning a 100th anniversary
badge and also the daisy petal "Friendly and Helpful". We are so grateful for all
of the great hygiene products!
StandUp For Kids Philadelphia is excited to have Sean Gardner join us as a new Co-Executive

and sources of funding. According to Sean, “Since I started volunteering for StandUp
For Kids I have been humbled and amazed by the plights of the young homeless in
Philadelphia. I am hopeful that I can be a positive and supportive leader that will

THE BREAK is an inspirational documentary about three homeless youths who need to make a change in their lives. Host Anne Mahlum, who founded Back On My Feet, offers these kids opportunities and the tools necessary to build a better life for themselves. According to the MTV webpage, “THE BREAK is the personal vision of U2's world-renowned guitarist, The Edge, who believes that everyone deserves a chance at a decent life--especially youth who are living without a home or support system through no fault of their own.”
StandUp For Kids NY is mentioned on the promotional website as an organization working toward the cause to end youth homelessness. To see trailers for the documentary, visit this link. To learn about Back On My Feet’s Anne Mahlum, visit this link.
StandUp For Kids, Philadelphia was recently presented with a $500 donation from Sentric, Inc., a management solutions company headquartered in Pittsburgh, PA. The generous donation was used in part to assist a couple who had recently been robbed of their possessions and who were in need of basic necessities. Specifically, StandUp For Kids, Philadelphia helped the couple obtain boots and heavy clothing to brave the winter months. To provide a pathway for the couple to secure gainful employment, StandUp For Kids, Philadelphia is working to help them obtain photo identification. It is with much hope that the couple will be back on track soon.
It is under such adverse conditions that organizations like StandUp serve as an available resource to the local Philadelphia community. By doing so, enduring and trusting relationships develop with our homeless and street youth which can ultimately lead to their self-preservation and independence. It is not just the mission to help those in need, but to help those in need help themselves. Using the remainder of the $500 donation, StandUp For Kids, Philadelphia will continue to provide assistance to the homeless youths and street kids of Philadelphia by walking the street and providing essential supplies.
On December 21st community members in Philadelphia participated in Homeless Memorial Day, a national event on the longest day of the year to commemorate the many homeless and formerly homeless who have passed away on the city streets. The event was held outside of the Broad Street Ministry at 315 South Broad Street at 4:30 PM. Speakers included Sister Mary Scullion, Co-Founder of Project Home as well as community leaders and former homeless people. Councilwoman Janine Blackwell presented a proclamation from the City Council and the names of those who have passed away were read aloud.
On November 28th the Claddagh Fund held its’ first annual Celebrity Rock-N-Bowl tournament at North Bowl in Northern Liberties. Sponsors who purchased a lane for $1000 were joined by a celebrity player. Some of the local celebrities who attended included Flyers players Zac Rinaldo, Matt Read, Ian Laperriere and Harry Zolnierczyk, and Miss Pennsylvania, Amber-Joi Watkins. Other celebrities included Ken Casey of the Dropkick Murphys and founder of the Claddagh Fund, Hell’s Kitchen contestant Jason Santos, and actor Kevin Chapman, star of the show Person of Interest. Standup For Kids is a beneficiary of the Claddagh Fund and the event supported StandUp For Kids and the Limen House. Spectators could attend for a $5 entrance fee and some of our directors went and got a first hand view of this great event.

I just wanted to let everyone know how much StandUp For Kids - Philadelphia has
been growing over the past year. We have been able to more than double the size
of our outreach team and fill some of our executive positions. We have started networking
with a few key homeless organizations in Philadelphia and we are excited about working
with all of them which will enable us to be more effective in what we are able to
do for the kids of Philadelphia. StandUp For Kids really appreciates all of the
efforts made by the many individuals, schools and groups on our behalf.
Some Unitedhealthcare workers in Pittsburgh wanted to make a difference in the lives
of homeless youth. Through Volunteer Match, they were connected with StandUp For
Kids - Philadelphia and they decided to hold a drive to collect food and hygiene
supplies.
Four large boxes of food and hygiene packs were sent to our Co-Executive Director
and the supplies were desperately needed. We are very thankful for the work of Katherine
Fabrizo in the Hospital Audit Services department of Unitedhealthcare for organizing
this effort.
Veronica Kelley and her daughter Erika are leading an effort in the Pennridge school district to raise money and collect donations for StandUp For Kids. Their efforts have resulted in a $500 donation from Pennridge North Middle School and an upcoming drive for supplies at Pennridge South Middle school. Both Veronica and Erika have worked hard to raise awareness for StandUp For Kids and we can’t thank them and the staff at Pennridge North Middle School enough.
