StandUp For Kids -

Welcome to
StandUp For Kids - .

The mission of StandUp For Kids is ending the cycle of youth homelessness.

We do this, every day, in cities across America. We carry out our mission through our volunteers who go to the streets in order to find, stabilize and otherwise help homeless and street kids improve their lives.

StandUp For Kids - Boston has been in existence for over 10 years and has served thousands of homeless and street involved youth in the Greater Boston area. The chapter is all-volunteer with 100% of donations going entirely to the individuals we serve.

  • Each year, StandUp For Kids - Boston serves more than 800 homeless and at-risk youth.
  • 5 homeless young adults (18-24) are participating in the transitional housing pilot program. The program will expand to serve additional youth next year.
  • Through presentations in local schools and community-based programs, StandUp For Kids - Boston aims to reach at least 1,000 at-risk youth per year.
  • Volunteers donate more than 4,000 hours of time per year through their work with the Boston chapter.
  • In 2010, more than 150 individuals volunteered with StandUp For Kids - Boston.

 Services Provided

Street Outreach - Street Outreach counselors go to the streets and try to reach homeless kids. The single greatest need for homeless and street kids is continuous caring and real support. StandUp For Kids provides additional services. Befriending homeless kids and letting them know that caring adults are concerned about their well-being is the first step toward helping these kids get off the streets and live a better life.

StandUp For Kids is the only organization in Boston that serves runaway youth under the age of 18 and currently conducts street outreach three days per week.

Transitional Housing - Homeless young adults (18-24) live in a structured and supportive living environment as part of a multi-faceted program that includes the following:

  • Live-in resident advisors
  • Mentors who are assigned to each participant
  • Life skills classes

The goal of the transitional housing program is that residents will be prepared to live independently as contributing members of society within three to twelve months of entering the program. The transitional housing program is the only known all-volunteer transitional housing program in America.

Don't Run Away - The Don't Run Away (DRA) program educates students on resources, options, and solutions to remove themselves from abusive situations, ultimately deterring them from running away. The DRA program is led by StandUp For Kids Volunteers from both high schools/colleges and city chapters, making presentations to junior high and elementary school students.
